International Conference on Leveraging Cultural Diversity
June 4-5, 2013
Royal Thimphu College
Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, Royal Thimphu College and the European Union invite all interested observers to register for the “Leveraging Cultural Diversity” conference, which will be held on RTC Campus in Thimphu on June 4 and 5, 2013.
This international conference will explore, discuss, and celebrate distinctive cultures of marginalized communities in Bhutan while also considering how these communities can leverage their cultural distinctiveness in ways that will benefit them as well as Bhutan as a whole. As well as presenting ethnographic studies of four communities in Bhutan (namely the Lhops of Lotokuchu, the Khengpas of Nganglatrong, the Rais of Lumbey and Sharchops of Kengkhar), policy makers, researchers and development practitioners from the region will also share experiences and ideas for practical applications of cultural diversity particularly in the fields of tourism and craft production. The conference will also engage with cultural diversity perfomatively through dance, song, photographs, craft and food. Academics, students, government officials, development practitioners, tourism industry professionals, and those otherwise involved in the documentation, production and promotion of locally specific indigenous cultures, crafts, arts, and performances are encouraged to participate.
