Bhutan's First and Only A+ Accredited Institution      Inspiring Education in Bhutan

English is central to our curriculum. Personal and professional success in life depends to a large extent on the individual’s ability to communicate well in English. The recent worldwide boom in the use of English is testimony to the dominance the English language now enjoys. This focus on English makes good business sense since our shrinking globalized world has embraced English as the dominant language of communication and individuals who excel in English give themselves a competitive edge in their professions.

With diminishing white-collar employment prospects in the country on the one hand and the increasing window of job opportunities in the region and beyond on the other, we expect many of our graduates to seek jobs abroad which will demand a high level of proficiency in English communication skills. While a certain level of competency in English is required at the entrance level, the college provides opportunities for weaker students to improve their English through a module on Orientation to College Life during the first semester. Skills will be developed in all the major English communication areas viz. reading, writing, listening and speaking. These important life skills will also determine how well students perform academically in their respective field of study.

English as one of the double majors:

Students with a strong aptitude for English literature, creative writing and language can opt for English as one of their double majors. This will provide in-depth knowledge in English literature, language, writing and communication skills. The standard English course that RTC provides is a perfect balance between study of grammar structures and development of fluency through the strategies of communicative language learning such as conversation, debates, presentations and other such preparation. The program will help students improve their ability to understand written English in a variety of contemporary literary forms and formulate their thoughts and present their points of view in proper styles of written persuasion. The English lecturers at RTC (many of whom are native English speakers) are highly experienced professionals who will bring the syllabus to life.

A degree in English can lead to a career in international business, government, journalism, teaching, consulting, editing, administration etc.
